In this article we will briefly review the results of our research in respect of the best food for dogs.
We devoted 85 hours to this project in our search of the best food for your beloved dog.
Our survey included 50 dog owners who were given questionnaires aimed at finding out what were the most important things for them as dog owners.
We consulted with 15 experts (veterinarians, dog trainers and academics).
We read 20 professional articles, and reviewed the ingredient lists of 15 leading brands.
General conclusions:
As our questionnaires indicate, the most important thing for dog owners is health and communication. People want their dogs healthy, and they want the communication between them and their furry friend to be as good as possible.
Research shows that the key to maintaining dog health is a balanced diet. Poor nutrition will cause health damage, decreased functioning, obesity, and also communication-related phenomena such as bad behavior or hyperactivity, lack of concentration, difficulty in training, and more.
For example, in China and India, in which standards are low and supervision is scarce compared to Western countries, many food manufacturers (we prefer to avoid mentioning brand names) add to dog food synthetic substances, which are harmful to the health of the dog.
There are also manufacturers who add useless ingredients, such as wheat and corn for example, that can cause allergies in dogs.
Finally, dogs are capable of eating non-meat foods, but their digestive system is less suitable for this, and therefore, undoubtedly, the main ingredient of their food must be meat.
It all comes down to dosage:
To check the ingredients is not enough, you should also check the dosages.
Your dog’s food should contain all food groups, dietary fiber, vitamins, moisturizers, etc. Experts recommend that it contain 30-35% protein for healthy and mature dogs, 20% fat and 50% carbohydrates. Older dogs or dogs with liver problems should be given a low-protein diet, and in such case, it is important that you consult with your veterinarian to ensure that your dog gets the exact diet he needs.

Special Needs:
Experts recommend that your dog does not consume foods that are appropriate for all stages of life. Rather, it should be given specific food according to its needs or to its age (puppy, adolescent, adult).
For example, adult dogs need less protein since they are less active, while puppies need more.
Adult dogs with heart or joint problems should be given Glucosamine and Creatinine-rich foods (as mentioned above).

We did not check at all foods with unidentified ingredients.
We checked which of the brands included in the survey gave the best ratio of protein, fat, and carbohydrate.
We tested the other vital ingredients in the foods such as vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, dietary fiber, and so on.
We tested the history of the brand, and customer satisfaction.
